Action:
Vitamin K is indispensable for proper blood clotting.
Vitamin K in human organism is produced by the bacteria existing in the alimentary tract. Food of plant origin is its other source. Breast-fed infants are particularly at risk of Vitamin K deficiency because human milk does not contain enough of Vitamin K. Additionally, bacterial flora in babies is weakly developed and does not produce the sufficient amount of this vitamin. Therefore, administration of Vitamin K in babies is an important element of prophylaxis against Vitamin K deficiency.
