Indications:
Vitamin E is used in prevention and treatment of the state of deficiency, in long-lasting improper nourishment and dyspesia in new-borns, children and adults, e.g. inborn (abetalipoproteinemia, malabsorption syndrome, mucoviscidosis). Recommended as an adjunctive in diseases involving the excessive production of free radicals, e. g. in atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease.
Action:
Vitamin E is one of the essential nutrients, though its role is not precisely known. Combined with selenium from food, it prevents polyunsaturated fatty acids from oxidation by free radicals and haemolysis. Protection against free radicals appears vital also to the process of development and functioning of the nervous and muscular systems.
