Action:
The drug contains paracetamol and pseudoephedrine as active substances. It is used as an analgesic and antipyretic agent, having decongestant effect on the upper respiratory airways. Antipyretic effect is probably related to the suppressed production of prostaglandins in the hypothalamus. Analgesic effect is related to the central effect that involves elevating pain threshold. Paracetamol is readily absorbable from the gastrointestinal tract, metabolised in the liver and then excreted in the urine.
Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic agent. It affects alpha-adrenergic receptors found in the upper respiratory mucosa, which results in constricted blood vessels, thus reducing nasal mucosa congestion and increasing its patency.
The onset of pseudoephedrine effect is observed after 30 minutes and is maintained for at least 4 hours.
