Action:
Cod liver oil (Oleum Jecoris Aselli) is obtained from the liver of cod (Gadus morrhua Linné) and other fish from the cods family (Gadidae). Main ingredients of the cod liver oil are as follows:
- Vitamin A - plays a significant role in the vision process, it is critical to the body growth, development and proper functioning of the epithelium and the mucous membrane, as well as in the formation of bone structure;
- Vitamin D - regulates the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus in the body, and is responsible for sustaining the balance between calcium and phosphorus - the main building materials of the osseous system.
Unsaturated fatty acids (EPA and DHA) reduce the content of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, and increase the level of HDL cholesterol, which has a protective effect.
All the above factors decrease the risk of ischemic heart disease.
