LACTULOSUM HASCO: indicated in the treatment and prevention of chronic constipation and hepatic encephalopathy.
The active substance of Lactulosum Hasco syrup is liquid lactulose – a synthetic
disaccharide, which is only slightly absorbed in the GI tract.
Liquid lactulose is metabolised in the colon to lactic acid (and other acids) which, by decreasing colon pH,
exert local osmotic effect resulting in
retention of water in the large intestine. This provides a soft and increased stool mass
and increased bowel action.
In patients with hepatic encephalopathy, liquid lactulose decreases toxicity of
ammonia. The acids formed as a result of disintegration of liquid lactulose decrease pH and
cause conversion of ammonia to non-absorbable and non-toxic ammonia ions, which
are retained in the colon, resulting in decreased blood ammonia levels.
Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the product, intestinal obstruction.
