R&D investments

Research and Development is one of the pillars of Hasco-Lek; practically since its beginning,
it has been one of key elements of the company’s operation. This is the reason here that new
formulations were created, which allowed us to introduce more and more advanced and
innovative products to the market. Mel, Fortiven Activ Gel or Hascovir are only a fraction
of our extensive portfolio, in which we take much pride.
In 2004, the innovative Novasome Research and Development Centre (Centrum Badawczo-Rozwojowe Novasome) was established as one of HASCO Group companies, to conduct research and development as well as expert and analytical activities in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, chemistry as well as for the cosmetic industry. In 2012, the charge of both the Research and Development Department and the Novasome Centre was given to Tomasz Han, who has continued to manage them until now. The ability to invest invest in development depends to a great extent on the equipment a given lab has at its disposal.
In Novasome’s laboratories, we can find, among others, GC-MS and LC-MS machines, which enable separation, detection and identification of a wide array of chemical compounds, a confocal Raman microscope, which allows us to conduct full characterisation of active substances, excipients, packagings and dispensing systems, to determine the distribution of formulation ingredients and production technologies, as well as the characteristics of packaging using chemical imaging, and more machines and other equipment such as XRPD, TGA-DSC, BET etc. Our advanced research and development machinery, together with the work of high-class specialists, have been a great asset for us.

From research to products

The hard, often years-long work on individual products carried out by together
with access to advanced equipment, enabled us to introduce many innovative
products to the market, which we share with pride whenever we can.

Here, we have to mention brands like Mel – a unique orodispersible analgesic,
or Fortiven, in which we enclosed a high dose of heparin. We are also proud
of products such as Hascovir, Lipożel, Ferovit or Magmil, in which we used
our patented liposomal technology. It consists in enclosing the active substance
in a double-layer lipid shell, which improves the bioavailability of the drug
and decreases the risk of side effects.

We want to be a leader in the responsible pharmaceutical industry and
in health care, providing the highest quality products, services and
solutions and realizing the needs (and meeting the expectations) of
our customers. We want to be seen as reliable, honest and desirable
employer and we want to attract people who are capable
and open to challenges.

The status of Novasome Research
and Development Centre

Research and development also means our Novasome Research and Development Centre which has obtained several types of status. Pursuant to the decision of the Minister of Economy of 14th May 2014, the company was granted the status of a Research and Development Centre. This status facilitates introducing innovations and commercialisation of inventions.

In 2018 Novasome’s status of scientific institute was confirmed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, thanks to which Novasome can develop its innovations Novasome can develop its innovations by regular collaboration with scientific institutes and higher education institutions.

In 2017, Novasome obtained GMP certification and is a holder of manufacturing licences for the manufacture of medicinal products and researched medicinal products in the scope of physicochemical quality control, as well as the processing and treatment of some narcotics and psychotropic substances.

R&D investments

Our employees gladly share their knowledge with students, giving talks and lectures at higher education institutions. Having noticed the need to combine advanced knowledge of chemistry with elements of medicine, we supported Wrocław Medical University’s motion to establish a new specialisation – Medical Chemistry. One of the employees of Hasco-Lek S.A. (Director of Scientific Affairs) teaches Industrial Pharmacy to fourth year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Wrocław Medical University and supervises master’s theses.

This helps graduates obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for starting work at research, control and diagnostic laboratories in the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and other industries. Hasco-Lek S.A. supports student science clubs, is a participant of the Poland-wide science conference “Contemporary use of analytical methods in pharmacy and medicine,” the seventh edition of which took place in 2022.

Since 2009, we have been in collaboration with the University of Wrocław, the goal of which is to establish a close scientific and economic partnership between the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Biology, joint participation in research and development programmes and cooperation in organising student and doctoral internships.

When it comes to internships and work placements, we also partner with the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the Poznan Medical University.
